As the leaves change color and the air turns chilly, now is the perfect time to create a fall self care routine and embrace the cozy vibes of the autumn season. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. It marks the beginning of the year’s end, and makes it the perfect time to revamp self care routines and nurture your mind, body, and soul. Here are some self care tips and practices you can start this season.
Embrace the Fall Season with Warm Comforts
Fall is the perfect time to wrap yourself in warm and cozy comforts. Think soft blankets and cozy socks. We just purchased some thick fleece blankets to snuggle in this season. My oldest daughter wraps hers around herself and walks all over the house with it, even though it’s still hot outside (we live in Florida where the temperatures are in the upper 80’s to lower 90’s in September and October) haha!
Consider adding a plush throw blanket to your living room couch, or buy yourself a pair of fuzzy slippers. You know what would take things up a notch? Fuzzy animal slippers, like bunnies or bears.
Light some fall-scented candles like apple, pumpkin, or cinnamon. If you’re not into candles or are sensitive to scents, add some fall LED decorative lights to your living spaces. If you’re into DIY, making a fall-themed centerpiece or seasonal wreath is a fun and creative way to bring the cozy spirit of autumn into your home. Or you can just go out and purchase them; do whatever brings you joy.
Regardless of the temperatures outside, these small changes can make a big difference in your overall comfort at home. Just ask my daughter 😉
Enjoy Feel-Good Fall Foods
Fall is the perfect time to enjoy seasonal foods that make you feel good. Think hearty soups, roasted vegetables, and anything with pumpkin, like these low fat sourdough discard pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, or this air fryer pumpkin spice sourdough bread. Not only are fall foods delicious, but they provide the nutrients you need to stay healthy and energized.
Try adding more seasonal fruits and vegetables to your meals, like squash, sweet potatoes, apples and carrots. They are packed with vitamins and minerals that support overall wellness.
Let’s not forget a nice warm drink to soothe your soul. Enjoy a cup of hot pumpkin or cinnamon tea, coffee, or cocoa. I’ve been adding a bit of pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice to my morning cups of coffee lately. And when I feel like indulging a little, I’ll make my own version of hot pumpkin spiced cocoa. SO GOOD!
How I Prioritize Mental Wellness with Mindful Practices
As the season changes, I’ve been slowing down and practicing mindfulness like meditation, journaling, deep breathing, and taking walks outside every day. These things help me stay grounded and reduce any stress that comes my way.
I find that spending time in nature really lifts my spirits and clears my mind. Plus, reflecting in my journal allows me to process my thoughts and feelings more clearly. It’s become a comforting routine that I look forward to each day.
Connect with Loved Ones through Fall Activities
Spending time with family and friends can really boost your mood and give you that sense of community we all need at times. Plan activities like pumpkin carving, attending fall festivals, or simply enjoying hot cocoa or tea together.
Try making the most of the beautiful fall weather by spending time outdoors. You could go for a walk in the park, hike through a scenic trail, or visit local farms with pumpkin patches.
Our family has a little tradition every year where we visit farms with pumpkin patches and corn mazes. We usually bring home two pumpkins; one for carving and another for pumpkin pie! Many farms also offer ‘you-pick’ experiences, where you can harvest your own seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Unwind with Creative Hobbies for Relaxation
Your fall self care routine can include creative hobbies that bring you joy and relaxation. Whether it’s knitting, sewing, painting, cooking, or baking, enjoying the little things you love is a great way to relax and recharge.
Setting aside time each week to tap into your creativity and focus on hobbies can give you a sense of accomplishment. It’s also a productive way to relax and relieve stress.
Set Intentions with Personal Goals for the Season
Fall always feels like a season of change and reflection, which makes it the perfect time to set some personal goals. For me, it’s getting more active, starting a new hobby, and focusing on my mental well-being. Whatever it looks like for you, having clear intentions can really help guide you through the season.
I like to write down my goals and keep them somewhere I’ll see every day. It keeps me motivated and helps me stay on track so I can really make the most of this time. It’s certainly an important part of my fall self care routine, and it feels extra special when goals get accomplished.
Create a Restful Sleep Environment
As the nights get longer, I love turning my bedroom into a cozy sanctuary. I switch to heavier blankets, adjust the temperature to just the right level, and I always use a white noise machine for better sleep. In fact, I have a white noise machine in all of our bedrooms, and we even bring one with us when we travel!
Investing in comfy bedding and maybe even a new pillow can really make a difference. When your room is set up for relaxation, it’s so much easier to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Final Thoughts
Fall is such a beautiful season to slow down and focus on yourself. By adding a few simple self care practices into your routine, you can fully embrace the cozy vibes of the season and nourish your mind, body, and soul. Whether it’s enjoying a warm drink, spending time outdoors, or making your home a little cozier, these small changes can have a big impact on your well-being. So take some time to prioritize your fall self care routine this season. You deserve it! 🍁
